Welcome to TwNews

welcome

With this first post, we present our TwNews blog. This is a space dedicated to free and independent journalism making world news available for everyone with Internet access. Born in 2019, the project started with three college students working at the university newspaper. Only three years later it became a blog featuring news from across the globe with the cooperation of writers and editors from different parts of the world.

The creators share a passion for journalism and want to take advantage of the digital tools of the 20th century. How do they do this? By using the Internet as a way to spread reliable news through fact-checking and different sources.

This first post presents the nature of the blog, which was created as a window to the events happening in the world. Humankind is going through a difficult stage in its history. This is marked by wars, pandemics, global warming, all in an ever-changing environment.

While technology is advancing every day towards AI and a metaverse reality, people have to deal with these important issues. In this context, ethical journalism becomes a necessity rather than a privilege.

What you will find here

TwNews features different types of news:

  • Weekly reports
  • Monthly news
  • Curious facts
  • The good news of the week

The first item refers to the latest news about what is going on in the world. Here we cover major world events and also specific news about a country or region. This is the section that you want to visit to be updated with recent information.

The monthly news section intends to reflect a summary of the most important events happening in specific regions, usually continents or geographical areas. One of our favorite sections is the one called ‘curious facts’. Here we include updates, fun facts, and unusual stories.

Finally, the good news of the week shows the other side of the picture. Sharing good news is not common in the industry, but we believe they also deserve a place. Thus, we show people that looking at the glass half full is also an option.

Who is TwNews for?

Every person that wants to be updated on the latest news will find TwNews useful. Especially those that are looking for independent sources. Since we don’t depend on any newspaper or official channel, we choose our own topics. This is a place where all opinions are respected and where the information is presented as objectively as possible.

Our writers and editors are committed to the principle of free and fair journalism and work to produce pieces that are in line with this policy. Young journalists can also benefit from TwNews having a place to learn and develop their skills. Our team encourages new points of view, especially from the younger generations. Millennials and centennials can bring a new perspective when it comes to gender perception, feminism, digital work environments, social media, etc.

Our content

We cover a wide variety of topics and regions. TwNews focuses on world news regarding sports, politics, economy, culture, finance, and technology.

The topics are spread across different countries and cultural cores. This includes Spanish-based content (including Spain and Latin America), South, Central, and North America, the Caribbean, Europe, and the European Union, Eastern and Central Europe, China, the Middle East, Asia in general, and, finally, Oceania and the Pacific region.

For example, we can present news about specific countries like Mexico or Spain, and also content concerning the whole Spanish-speaking world. We can discuss China and Hong Kong either together or separately. Even though these countries share a culture and have political and economic ties, they are separate jurisdictions.

In the same way, some countries are located far away from each other but share similar policies, especially when it comes to financial services. We can name Vanuatu, the Caribbean, Gibraltar, Hawaii, and Singapore as examples.

This flexible approach helps us convey the right message. It’s a part of who we are as an independent news blog created by passionate journalists.
