About us
We are an independent channel committed to journalism of the highest standard. Originally created by three college students, this project intends to show what is going on in the world in a reliable way.
The internet is full of cross information which can be seen positively or negatively. On one hand, people have access to practically limitless content. This includes tutorials, reviews, classes, and much more. News is also widely available on the internet, but we have to be careful as to what are the sources, how reliable they are, etc.
The digital era mustn’t swipe away the true foundations of journalism. That’s where we come in.
Our story
TwNews was created by three friends who met in college: Katherine Thompson, David Freestone, and Robert Audrey. In 2019, a friendship was born and so was this project.
The three students worked at the university’s journal, and they all wanted to pursue a career in journalism. Robert, David, and Katherine really took advantage of this early training writing about various topics. This included covering the university’s sports tournaments, interviewing the most popular teachers, profiles on high-achieving graduates, and so on.
During the second year, they started to work on their own pieces and released independent publications that they shared with other students on campus. These were very well received, and the project soon turned into a blog that is now called TwNews.
Our mission
The original name of the publication was ‘Students’ daily’ and it talked mainly about students’ problems and events occurring in the area. Later, they decided to change the name to TwNews, since the publication would cover wider topics. Now, the publication is run by its creators with the help of a solid editorial team.
So, how did TwNews eventually become a world news blog? During their early steps in the journalism path, Robert, David, and Katherine saw that the junior students were often misled by fake news channels or sensationalist reports. This was especially true regarding events happening away from the area where they lived.
Hence, it became their mission to create a news blog created, written, and managed by independent journalists. TwNews was supposed to be a platform where people could find out what is going on in the world. The pieces of news had to be well-researched, and facts thoroughly checked, whilst the sources needed to be confirmed.
Through the internet and after participating in a students’ exchange program in Germany, they made the necessary contacts with other young journalists around the world. This opened the possibility to consolidate the blog as now they had local sources to check facts and develop the articles.
Our vision
The TwNews team believes in free and independent journalism and this blog is proof of this commitment. The digital era allows many possibilities that can be used whether to inform or misinform people, and this team wants to be in the first group.
The Internet should not be used to deceive or mislead. On the contrary, it’s a wonderful tool that opens a world of possibilities. Hence, high-quality journalism can only be developed with this premise in mind.
Thanks to their commitment, TwNews shares news from all over the globe in a safe environment. Each article undergoes a strict editorial process to make sure it’s reliable, interesting, and written appealingly.
Katherine, David, and Robert believe that information is power and that it must belong to the people. This is why they created TwNews and continue to grow it, nurture it, and expand it. All readers are welcome to find the region they are interested in and dive into the latest news.
